Business internet for manufacturing
Connectivity for manufacturers whose ERP, remote machine support and supply-chain links depend on the line — dedicated, resilient, and properly segmented.
Manufacturers increasingly depend on the internet for production planning, cloud ERP, customer and supplier portals, and remote support of machinery. Asptech designs, supplies and manages dedicated, resilient connectivity for manufacturing sites, with firewalling that keeps production equipment separate from everything else.
Where manufacturing depends on the connection
ERP and production planning
Works orders, scheduling, stock and costing increasingly run in the cloud. When the line drops, the shop floor loses sight of what to make next.
Remote machine support
Machine builders and integrators often support equipment remotely. That access has to work when you need it, and be tightly controlled when you do not.
Supply-chain links
Customer portals, EDI, call-off schedules and supplier ordering are time-sensitive, particularly in just-in-time supply chains.
Design and quality data
CAD files, inspection data and photographic records are large, and are exchanged with customers and suppliers in both directions.
Keeping production equipment separate
Machine controllers, and the older PCs that often run production equipment, frequently cannot be updated and should never be reachable from the internet. Connectivity for a manufacturing site has to come with a firewall design that keeps them on their own segments, with remote access granted deliberately and logged.
We design routing and firewalling alongside the connection, so remote support for a machine builder is a controlled, time-limited door rather than a permanent hole.
Matching resilience to production
What an outage costs a manufacturer varies widely. A site that can run a shift from printed schedules has different needs from one whose lines stop when the ERP is unreachable. We work from that, not from a standard package — sometimes a mobile backup is enough, and sometimes two diverse circuits are justified.
Common questions
- Can a machine supplier have remote access safely?
- Yes, with the right controls: access limited to the specific equipment, enabled when it is needed, and logged. That is designed into the firewall rather than left to whatever the supplier installs.
- Do we need a leased line for one factory with a small office?
- Not always. If production does not depend on cloud systems and an outage is a nuisance, good broadband with a backup may be enough. We will tell you if that is the case.
- Can you connect our sites together?
- Yes. Multi-site manufacturers usually need secure links between factories, warehouses and head office, and we design them as one network.
