Outdoor Wi-Fi installation
Outdoor Wi-Fi for yards, car parks, gardens, grounds and the gaps between buildings — weatherproof, properly powered and built to last.
Outdoor Wi-Fi installation is permanent wireless coverage for open spaces — yards, car parks, beer gardens, sports grounds, campsites and the areas between buildings — using equipment designed for exposure. Asptech surveys and installs outdoor Wi-Fi across the UK, on its own or alongside indoor coverage.
What makes outdoor Wi-Fi different
Weather
Rain, frost, sun and wind. Access points, cable entries and fixings all have to be rated for exposure, and cable protected wherever it runs.
Power at the edge
Where you need coverage is rarely near a socket. Getting power and data to a pole or a far wall is often the biggest part of the job, and planning it well is what keeps the cost sensible.
Trees change with the seasons
Leaves absorb signal. A link that works in February can fade by June, so foliage is accounted for at survey rather than discovered in summer.
Linking buildings
Point-to-point wireless links can join outbuildings, a gatehouse or a far field to the main network without digging a trench, given a clear line of sight.
Different radio rules outside
Some 5 GHz Wi-Fi channels are permitted indoors only in the UK. Outdoor equipment has to be set to the channels allowed outside, which narrows the options on a busy site.
Surge, lightning and theft
Equipment on poles and exposed walls needs surge protection, proper earthing, and mounting that is out of reach and hard to remove.
How we handle it
Outdoor coverage starts on site — walking the space, checking line of sight, mounting points and cable routes. We design for how the space is used: a car park needs a different approach from a beer garden, and a campsite different again.
This is for places that need coverage all year round. For festivals and one-off events, our event IT service builds temporary networks instead.
Common questions
- How far does one outdoor access point reach?
- Further than indoors, but range is rarely the limit. Capacity, obstructions and where people actually stand matter more — a busy beer garden needs more than one access point even if one could technically reach the far end.
- Can you connect an outbuilding without digging?
- Usually. A point-to-point wireless link between buildings with clear line of sight carries a full network connection without a trench.
- Will it survive the winter?
- It is designed to. Equipment, fixings and cable are rated for exposure, and managed networks are monitored so a fault is found before your customers find it.
Book a Wi-Fi survey
