Warehouse Wi-Fi installation
Warehouse Wi-Fi designed around high racking, changing stock and handheld scanners — surveyed, installed, then managed or handed over.
Warehouse Wi-Fi installation is the design and fitting of wireless coverage for warehouses, distribution centres and industrial units, where racking, stock and ceiling height make signal behave very differently from an office. Asptech surveys and installs warehouse Wi-Fi across the UK, inside the building and out across the yard.
Why warehouses are different
Racking makes corridors
Metal racking reflects and blocks signal, so each aisle behaves like its own narrow room. Coverage is planned down the aisles, not across an open floor that does not really exist.
Stock changes the signal
An aisle full of drinks, paper or metal absorbs far more signal than an empty one. A network that tested fine in a quiet month can struggle at peak, so we survey with that in mind.
High ceilings
Access points mounted high to cover more floor often cover it badly. Mounting height, antenna type and angle are chosen area by area, not copied from an office design.
Scanners on the move
Handheld and vehicle-mounted terminals roam constantly between access points, and many older ones only work on 2.4 GHz. A scanner that drops its session mid-pick costs time on every order.
Long cable runs
Network cable has a hundred-metre limit. In a large building that means planning where switches and fibre go, not just where the access points hang.
Yards, docks and cold stores
Coverage often has to reach the dock doors, the yard and refrigerated areas, each with its own equipment needs — weatherproof outside, temperature-rated in the cold.
How we handle it
We survey the building as it is used — racking in, ideally stock in, and with the scanners and terminals you actually run. Device compatibility matters as much as coverage: settings that suit a new laptop can be exactly wrong for a five-year-old scanner.
Installation at height is planned around your operation, with powered access equipment and work scheduled for quiet periods or out of hours so picking does not stop. Afterwards we can manage the network — including the adjustments that keep it working as the building fills up — or hand it over documented.
Common questions
- Our scanners keep disconnecting. Can you fix that without starting again?
- Often, yes. Scanner drop-outs are frequently roaming or configuration problems rather than missing coverage. We survey what you have first and tell you whether it needs adjusting, extending or replacing.
- Can you cover the yard and gatehouse too?
- Yes. Outdoor areas use weatherproof access points, and buildings across a yard can be linked wirelessly where trenching for cable would be disruptive.
- Will installation disrupt picking?
- We plan it so it does not. Work at height is scheduled around your shifts, including evenings and weekends where needed.
Book a Wi-Fi survey
Every installation starts with a survey of the space, indoors, outdoors or both. Tell us about the site and we will arrange a visit.
