Business Wi-Fi survey

An on-site survey of your premises, indoors, outdoors or both — measured coverage, a placement plan and a quote you can act on.

A Wi-Fi survey measures how signal actually behaves in your building — walls, floors, interference, neighbouring networks — and turns that into a plan for how many access points you need and where they go. Asptech carries out on-site Wi-Fi surveys for businesses across the UK, indoors, outdoors or both.

What the survey looks at

  • Coverage

Signal measured room by room and across outdoor areas — not predicted from a floor plan and hoped for.

  • Capacity

How many devices connect at once and what they do. A meeting room of video calls needs far more than a corridor of phones.

  • Interference

Neighbouring networks, crowded channels, and non-Wi-Fi sources such as microwaves, wireless cameras and some industrial equipment.

  • Building fabric

Walls, floors, lift shafts, racking, coated glass and anything else that blocks or reflects signal.

  • Cabling and power

Where access points can physically be mounted, how cable will reach them, and where the switches need to sit.

  • Your existing network

If you already have Wi-Fi that is not working, why — and whether the answer is placement and configuration rather than more hardware.

What you get

You get a written report: measured coverage, the problems we found, where each access point should go and why, and what cabling is needed. It comes with a quote for the work, set out so you can choose between managed Wi-Fi and install only.

The report is yours either way. If you would rather your own team or another installer did the work, the plan still stands — we would rather the network be right than insist on fitting it ourselves.

Where you already have Wi-Fi, we survey it as it stands first. More often than you would expect, the fix is moving or reconfiguring what is there rather than buying more of it.

Common questions

How long does a survey take?
It depends on the size and layout of the site. A small office is usually a couple of hours on site; a large warehouse, or a hotel with grounds, can take a day. We tell you when we book it.
What does a survey cost?
It depends on the size of the site and whether outdoor areas are included. We quote it when we book it, so you know before anyone arrives.
Do you need floor plans?
They help but they are not essential. If you have drawings, send them over beforehand. If not, we work from the building itself.
Is there any obligation afterwards?
No. The report and the plan are yours. Most clients go on to have us install it, but some hand the plan to their own team.
